Dear Brothers and Sisters,

1.5 billion pounds of almonds!  that’s the latest estimate for the almond crop to be harvested in September. Of this  we guess that about half will be exported. The remainder, something like 750,000,000 pounds, will be fumigated! In a very real sense these almonds are your American heritage. It’s a shame that Big Almond can think of nothing better than to fumigate them with propylene oxide, a carcinogen.

We can  consider this tragic episode as a hologram, so to speak, of what is going in the soul of this America.  Now a hologram has a curious property, namely,  from  any part we can reconstruct the whole. We see first of all a disconnect here between those who choose life and those who choose stupor.  What after all is the live food movement all about but in choosing life! That hit of aliveness, that sense of exhilaration, whether from an almond smoothie, backpacking in the high Sierras  or being with your lover, you’ve got to carry into the world.  In fact it’s imperative that you do so. If the live food movement is to live, if this America is to live then we’ve got to go beyond  green, beyond ecology to  treating every American with kindness,decency and respect. Surely, this is what Lincoln meant when he spoke about a rebirth of freedom.This is the reply of life to the ignominy of the 750 million pounds.

Freedom Butter

We call our almond butter Freedom Butter. It is made in Berkeley,an epicenter of innovation and creativity. It was here that Steve Wozniak, the inventor of the PC went to school. It was here that Martin Luther King dared speak of freedom. It was here that John Muir launched his struggle to preserve the American wilderness. Out of the stupor of acquiescence in the 60s, burst forth here the Free Speech Movement. At one point Berkeley was a conscience of America.

So put some Freedom Butter on a slice of cucumber and and meditate on the intentionally that has gone into it. Think of the family farmers who grew the almonds and think of the loving care and devotion that has gone into making it. Gaze at the texture, savor the aroma and come to the realization that Living Tree Alive Almond Butter is a prologue to a new birth of freedom.

Black Sesame Tahini

Desiree Black Sesame Pesto

Here's a zesty pesto made from our organic, UNHULLED, black sesame seeds. We've added basil, thyme and our Alive Olive Oil and Royal Himalayan Pink Crystal Salt to make it satisfyingly good! Its a symphony of flavors. Use it on carrot and celery sticks and on flax seed crackers for hors d'oeuvres.

Black sesame seed is said to be effective in mitigating premature gray hair. An excellent source of calcium for those avoiding cow's milk. Very Smooth Calcium/Protein Booster Recipe by Master Live Food Chef Dorit

Yields 1 quart

• 1 pint mixed kale, celery,parsley , spinach juice
• 1 Tablespoon Living tree Whole Sesame Tahini'
• 2-3 bananas ( frozen)
• 7-10 slices of Lotus Root (optional)
• a handful pre-soaked sunflower seeds

Mix all the ingredients in a powerful blender. If the taste is too bitter for your taste buds, then add 1 -2 teaspoons agave nectar or 1/4 teaspoon of lemon juice Note: This is a complete meal in a glass.

Having lent trillions of dollars to homeowners, developers and condo flippers who were busy inflating the largest housing bubble in American history, many financial institutions are saddled with huge bad debts.
